Labs are generally very friendly and easy to train.  That is because they were originally bred for hunting and often times they hunt with new and different people and dogs, so they should not be aggressive. They do have a lot of energy and strength in order to retrieve quarry from the water and rough terrain and stamina in order to finish the hunt.  And finally, they must take commands and try to please people.  These qualities have made Labrador Retrievers the number one most popular dog in America for several years!

 

These same qualities used for hunting make the lab a fantastic pet as well, energetic, friendly, healthy and smart. Labs are also used for all kinds of scent work including rescue, law enforcement and finding antler sheds and blood trails.  Of course they are popular as seeing-eye dogs as well.  

 

Above all we look for health and good disposition.  Of course good behaviour is mostly a reflection of the owner.  We check hips radiographically with OFA and do genetic testing when possible. We feel these are some really top notch labs sutiable for hunting or just a lifelong buddy.

 

We have two new parents at White Star.  Moose (dad) and Vintage (mom) they are similar size and shape and both happy and friendy.

 

These two have a similar look and build, more the English stocky and blocky, the English are a little calmer too, but not so out of shape that they couldn't retrieve a duck from the water pr play catch all day with the kids.
